Ivy Tech Community College Selects Pearson's Propero to Expand Access to Learning
Pearson's Propero a New Service to Increase Access to Higher Education
BOSTON, April 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Pearson today launched Propero, a higher education service designed to increase affordable access to higher education, and announced that Ivy Tech Community College will be using Propero to expand its degree completion options.
"Higher education institutions are challenged by fewer resources at their disposal. At the same time, demand for a college education remains high. We created Propero to help colleges increase access to their general education courses at lower cost to students. Propero offers assessment-driven instruction and is a self-paced, student-directed model that's highly supported by tutors and advisors. It's designed to supplement the courses taught by faculty and gives institutions another way to offer flexible learning options for their students," said Don Kilburn, Vice Chairman of Pearson Higher Education and CEO of Pearson Learning Solutions.
Propero provides a new way for higher education institutions to expand access and promote degree completion while retaining full control over their offerings. Institutions select how and when to offer Propero. The courses are based on Pearson's rigorous, award-winning courseware that has received the American Council on Education's recommendation for college credit. Propero combines on-demand tutoring, student support and courses hosted on Pearson's highly stable infrastructure.
Beginning in June, Ivy Tech Community College will use Propero in its CLEP program for accounting, American government, English composition and psychology for qualifying students, with plans to offer eight additional courses.
"We are looking at a variety of ways of expanding access to high quality academic programs and services to students," said Kara Monroe, Associate Vice President for Online Academic Programs at Ivy Tech Community College. "We chose to extend our partnership with Pearson so that we could serve a greater number of students by expanding access to our CLEP program. We know it's in our best interest to give students flexibility, and we hope this new service will really open up some doors for them."
"We continue to partner with colleges and universities to assist them in their mission to provide diverse, affordable models for students who need more choices," said Don Kilburn of Pearson.
