ITSolutions, an Acentia Company, Awarded 3-Year Contract from the Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury
FALLS CHURCH, Va., Dec. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- IT Solutions, an Acentia company ("Acentia"), today announced that it has been awarded a 3-year, $4.8-million contract from the Defense Centers of Excellence (DCoE) for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury (PH/TBI), Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center (DVBIC).
Under this award, Acentia will establish a nationwide outreach and awareness campaign to educate and inform U.S. military service members, veterans, and their families about traumatic brain injury (TBI). Acentia will assist in developing, marketing, and sustaining a national public awareness of TBI via a long-term education, prevention, and outreach strategy. This includes Public Service Announcements (PSAs), social media and web campaigns, printed materials and broadcast media announcements, and promotion at regional and national conferences.
Much public attention has been drawn to TBI and concussions as a result of U.S. combat operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. However, data collected from the electronic medical records of service members diagnosed with TBI since 2000, indicate that over 80 percent of TBIs have occurred in non-deployed settings and are not blast-related. Therefore, the Department of Defense recognizes TBI is a significant health issue that will continue to affect service members and veterans.
"We are honored that Acentia has been selected to support DCoE's efforts to raise awareness of the very serious issue of traumatic brain injury," said Acentia Health Sector Executive Richard Jacik . "Acentia is committed to helping DCoE achieve its mission of improving the lives of our nation's service members, veterans, and their families by advancing excellence in psychological health and traumatic brain injury prevention and care."
In addition to this award, Acentia currently supports the Military Pathways Program for DCoE's National Center for Telehealth and Technology (T2). Military Pathways is an awareness and outreach contract, focused on the effort to reduce stigma, educate military families and service members about psychological health and alcohol services provided by both T2 and the DoD and to encourage appropriate help-seeking and treatment.
