PHOENIX, Feb. 26, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- iTether Technologies Inc., provider of application development for behavioral change services, today announced being among 10 first round winners of Addressing Opioid Use Disorder in Pregnant Women and New Moms, a Grand Challenge created by The Health Resources and Services Administration's (HRSA) Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB).
The winning innovations are technology-based solutions to improve access to quality health care for pregnant and new mothers struggling with opioid use disorder. The innovations aim to reduce barriers in obtaining safe and effective care and treatment, especially for families in rural and geographically isolated areas.
Phase 1 winners receive a share of a $100,000 cash prize and continue to Phase 2, where they will develop their prototype and begin small-scale testing through August 2019. Challenge entrants included multidisciplinary teams of academics, health professionals, tech companies, as well as individuals and community groups.
Recognizing that health care happens beyond the clinic, iTether's project will expand its digital opioid recovery management platform to improve care coordination and treatment for these women in rural AZ communities. Unique to the platform are personalized care plans, high-quality online education, telehealth access to clinicians, social determinants of health, and tracking of progress toward recovery and wellbeing.
Together with partner, Dr. Maria Manriquez, MD, FACOG, Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix, iTether has been awarded a grant of $10,000 to go towards building the platform.
iTether is also partnering with Massachusetts Department of Public Health, who will use the platform to deliver its innovative Plan for Safe Care to pregnant women through their Journey Recovery Project.
