Italian National Agency for University and Research Systems Evaluations (ANVUR) Selects Scopus Data for National Research Assessment
AMSTERDAM, October 17, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --
Elsevier, the information analytics business specializing in science and health, has announced that the Italian National Agency for University and Research Systems Evaluations (ANVUR) has selected Scopus, the world's largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed scientific literature, as its bibliometric data provider for the review and assessment process of a specific national research funding initiative, known as the Fund for Financing Basic Research Activities ("Fondo Finanziamento Attivita Base di Ricerca").
This funding project represents a first of its kind special initiative undertaken by the Italian government for which it is making an additional 45 million Euros available for research funding for Italian researchers. Throughout 2017, this is the largest sum of national funding which has been made available for allocation to researchers on a competitive basis.
Marco Malgarini, Senior Manager for Research Evaluation at ANVUR said: "In the past we have worked very well with Elsevier and appreciated its dedication to quality work and capacity to respect strict deadlines, which made us very comfortable in choosing them for this important project, pouring a very sizeable amount of extra funds in the higher education system."
Patrick Crisfulla, Vice President Product Management at Elsevier said: "ANVUR's decision to use Scopus data for its national research assessment is an affirmation of Elsevier's ability to deliver authoritative data that supports Italy's pursuit of academic excellence. We are thrilled that they have selected Scopus and are looking forward to working with the ANVUR team to deliver the set of data that are needed for the fulfillment of the funding procedure."
ANVUR, as the Italian national government research assessment body, evaluates the quality of national research performance of higher education institutions against national and international benchmarks. The agency oversees different evaluation procedures, always based on the pillars of independency, impartiality, professionality, transparency.
