Italian Americans Unite to End Negative Stereotypes At "In Defense of Our Heritage" Event at Seton Hall University on April 21
Italian American ONE VOICE Coalition general meeting headlined by veteran TV news correspondent Richard Valeriani and noted poet, author Daniela Gioseffi
BLOOMFIELD, N.J., April 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Are you an Italian American who is sick and tired of the negative portrayal and denigration of our heritage? If so, we need you to attend the Italian American ONE VOICE Coalition general meeting on Sunday, April 21st, at 1:30 p.m. at the Chancellor's Suite, Seton Hall University, South Orange, NJ. The event is free and all are welcome to attend.
Veteran broadcast correspondent Richard Valeriani will be on hand to speak passionately about his heritage. Valeriani spent more than 31 years as a correspondent for NBC News and The Associated Press, reporting from 90 countries and all 50 states. As Washington correspondent for NBC for almost 20 years, he covered the White House, State Department and Pentagon and wrote "Travels with Henry" about the 500,000-plus miles he traveled covering Henry Kissinger, then Secretary of State.
Co-headlining the event is Daniela Gioseffi, poet, novelist, literary critic, essayist, performer and winner of the prestigious American Book Award. She is an author of 16 poetry books and is editor of PoetsUSA.com, which features accomplished Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award winning poets. Gioseffi was among the first Italian American women writers to be widely published in the main stream of American poetry. Her verse was chosen to be etched in marble on a wall of the 7th Avenue Concourse of New York's Penn Station, with verses by Walt Whitman and William Carlos Williams.
Victoria DeMarinis Miragliotta, a noted Italian American activist and ONE VOICE Board member, will speak about: "Will we ever have an Italian American President?" Miragliotta has been passionate about her Italian heritage since growing up with her Italian Grandparents. She is Writer/Director of "In the Footsteps of Columbus, 500 years of Italian American Immigration in New Jersey," a special for cable TV. She was the first female elected President of the Order of the Sons of Italy in America, Monmouth County chapter, serving several terms, and also became state delegate and representative to the Commission for Social Justice, the anti-defamation wing of OSIA.
ONE VOICE's powerful defender and speaker Andre' DiMino, and founding member Dr. Manny Alfano will present an overview of the organization's triumphs over bias and its never-ending challenges.
The Italian American ONE VOICE Coalition is the nation's only Italian American organization whose sole mandate is to fight stereotypes and bias against Italian Americans. ONE VOICE is recruiting members ready, willing and able to phone, email, fax and write letters to oppose instances of bias and discrimination.
