IT Jobs Grow Modestly; Engineering Employment Ticks Down
ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 8, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The number of IT jobs grew 0.2 percent sequentially last month to 5,094,400, according to TechServe Alliance, the national trade association of the IT & Engineering Staffing and Solutions industry. On a year-over-year basis, IT employment grew by 3.9% since March 2015 adding 190,500 IT workers.
Engineering employment ticked down 0.05 percent sequentially to 2,528,200. On a year-over-year basis, engineering employment grew by an anemic 0.8% since March 2015 adding 20,200 engineering workers---continuing to underperform the overall workforce.
"While I would not characterize Q1 numbers as robust, IT employment continued to post steady growth in March. On the engineering side, employment ticked down modestly," stated Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance. "Many policymakers have noted that while there is still significant underlying strength in the US economy, all indicators are not uniformly positive. The same could be said for job growth in technical occupations particularly engineering," observed Roberts.
