IT Jobs Continue Modest Growth Trajectory; Engineering Employment Improves

ALEXANDRIA, Va., May 18, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The number of IT jobs grew 0.2 percent sequentially last month to 5,107,200, according to TechServe Alliance, the national trade association of the IT & Engineering Staffing and Solutions industry. On a year-over-year basis, IT employment grew by 3.8% since April 2015 adding 189,100 IT workers.

Engineering employment improved, growing 0.1 percent sequentially to 2,531,500.  On a year-over-year basis, engineering employment grew by an anemic 0.8% since April 2015 adding 21,100 engineering workers.

"IT employment continued its steady but unremarkable growth in April.   On the engineering side, we saw the return of modest growth after ticking down the prior month," stated Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance. "While there remains an air of uncertainty, we continue to see hiring in many technical skill sets continue at a solid pace.  Employers and the employment market are not monolithic.  While we are seeing weak demand in some industries, other industries such as management and technical consulting are showing remarkable strength," observed Roberts.
