ALEXANDRIA, Va., May 17, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- IT employment topped 4 million with an increase of 5,000 jobs in April. In fact, due to upward revisions of data previously reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of IT jobs actually topped the 4 million mark back in February.
According to a monthly index of IT jobs developed and published by TechServe Alliance, a collaboration of IT services firms, clients, consultants and suppliers, the number of IT jobs grew for the 16th consecutive month by 0.12 percent in April to 4,009,900, up almost 136,000 jobs from April 2010.
"I am heartened by the continued strength of IT employment topping 4 million jobs for the first time since November 2008," stated Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance. "While a somewhat arbitrary threshold, it is an important psychological milestone putting us well along the path toward surpassing the previous all-time record for IT employment in the near future," observed Roberts.
