IT Employment Dips Slightly in December; Outperforms Overall Employment Market in 2012
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- IT employment was essentially flat in December ---dipping only slightly from November's numbers.
According to TechServe Alliance, a collaboration of IT services firms, clients, consultants and suppliers, the number of IT jobs shrank by 600 jobs in December to reach a level of 4,187,000. Concurrently, there was an upward revision of October (1300) and November's (1500) IT jobs numbers. In 2012, IT job growth posted respectable growth of 2.23% on year-over-year basis (comparing December 2011 to December 2012) following similar growth in 2011 of 2.3%.
"While there was respectable growth overall in 2012, the IT jobs growth engine was essentially in a holding pattern in the fourth quarter," said Mark Roberts, the CEO of TechServe.
"While the secular trends for strong IT employment growth remain in place, we need to get through the current period of pervasive uncertainty. Once the uncertainty dissipates, I fully anticipate we will see robust growth in IT employment throughout 2013 and beyond," added Roberts.
