IT and Engineering Job Growth Strengthens

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The number of IT jobs grew 0.1% sequentially last month to 5,313,200, according to TechServe Alliance, the national trade association of the IT & Engineering Staffing and Solutions industry. On a year-over-year basis, IT employment grew by 2.6% since August 2016 adding 135,900 IT workers.

Engineering employment increased by 0.2 percent sequentially to 2,574,800. On a year-over-year basis, growth in engineering employment increased by 1.5% since August 2016 or 37,500 engineering workers.

"Reversing a recent downward trend line, the rate of both IT and engineering job growth increased in August. This is particularly impressive against a backdrop of more anemic job growth in the overall labor market," stated Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance. "While a single month does not establish a trend, I am encouraged by improvement in the IT and engineering employment picture," added Roberts.
