IT and Engineering Employment Continues Upward Trajectory
ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 11, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The number of IT jobs grew 0.4 percent sequentially last month to 4,856,400, according to TechServe Alliance, the national trade association of the IT & Engineering Staffing and Solutions industry. On a year-over-year basis, IT employment has grown by 4.5% since February 2014 adding 210,200 IT workers.
Engineering job growth remained steady, up 0.2 percent sequentially to 2,522,500. On a year-over-year basis, engineering employment has grown by 1.5% since February 2014 adding 36,300 engineering workers.
"In February, IT employment continued its strong month-over-month performance. While not as robust as IT, engineering employment posted solid growth in February," stated Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance. "As I have been warning for some time, an inadequate supply of talent in high demand skill sets will continue to be a challenge. Without a significant increase in the availability of talent by growing the domestic IT and engineering workforce or increasing the availability of high-skilled foreign professionals, all industries dependent on technical talent will continue to be at risk of not having their needs fully met. In the White House's launch of its TechHire initiative this week, the Administration underscored what is both a challenge and opportunity noting that over 500,000 IT jobs have gone unfilled," added Roberts.
