IT & Engineering Employment Post Smallest Monthly Gains of the Year

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The number of IT jobs grew 0.2 percent sequentially last month to 4,685,000, according to TechServe Alliance, the national trade association of the IT & Engineering Staffing and Solutions industry. On a year-over-year basis, IT employment has grown by 3.5% since August 2013 adding 158,900 IT workers.

Engineering jobs also grew again in July, up 0.1 percent sequentially to 2,516,000. On a year-over-year basis, engineering employment has grown by 2.1% since August 2013 adding 51,000 engineering workers.

"While we continue to see a month-over-month rise in IT and engineering employment, the rate of job growth slowed in August. Engineering job growth slowed most notably. After posting the fastest rate of growth in July, August represented the slowest rate of job growth for the year," stated Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance. "Despite the slowdown in the pace job growth, IT and engineering employment remains robust. The ebb and flow of the monthly jobs numbers is a natural part of a dynamic labor market," added Roberts.
