IT & Engineering Employment Growth Rates Hold Steady

ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 17, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The number of IT jobs grew 0.3 percent sequentially last month to 4,943,900, according to TechServe Alliance, the national trade association of the IT & Engineering Staffing and Solutions industry. On a year-over-year basis, IT employment has grown by 4.4% since June 2014 adding 208,200 IT workers.

The rate of engineering job growth continues to be sluggish, up slightly less than 0.1 percent sequentially to 2,523,200.  On a year-over-year basis, engineering employment has grown by 0.7% since June 2014 adding 18,600 engineering workers.

"IT employment continued its modest growth trajectory in June while the rate of growth in   engineering employment remained sluggish," stated Mark Roberts, CEO of TechServe Alliance. "With the IT growth rate coming within a narrow range for the last 10 months, it seems we have fallen into a pattern of modest but consistent growth.  Though demand has not abated, an inadequate supply of IT professionals in high-demand skill sets continues to be a major factor in restricting the rate of growth," added Roberts.
