This past fall, Istation partnered with MetaMetrics®, developer of the Lexile Framework for Reading, to link the Lexile scale with student comprehension scores from ISIP™ (Istation's Indicators of Progress) for students in grades 1 through 8. Students now receive a Lexile student measure every time they take the ISIP comprehension subtest. The added use of Lexile measures in assessments enhances Istation's ability to provide an effective metric for matching readers to texts.
"Istation has significantly invested in strengthening the integrity of our student progress reports by including Lexile student measures in our computer-adaptive assessments," said Richard H. Collins, Istation chairman and CEO. "We're excited to provide educators even more effective metrics for monitoring student progress toward state and national proficiency standards, as well as delivering differentiated instruction."
In addition to progress monitoring, the inclusion of Lexile student measures supports differentiated instruction for at-risk students as well as proficient readers by matching students with appropriate texts based on individual reading ability and the complexity of reading material.
Educators can make well-informed, data-driven instructional decisions using Lexile scores through Istation Reading. With more than 100 million books, articles and websites correlated to the Lexile scale, administrators, teachers, parents and students have access to a world of free, targeted resources that are correlated with Lexile student measures, including Istation Reading's downloadable online books that support cross-curriculum instruction.
Strengthening the school-to-home connection, Istation Reading also helps schools improve parent communication regarding student progress by providing a Lexile student measure from the Lexile framework. Plus, parents are empowered to engage more in their child's growth by using Lexile scores from Istation Reading's assessments to find appropriate, yet challenging, reading materials for use at home.
Lexile student measures are automatically included with all subscriptions for Istation Reading and can be found on various reports. Parents can find their child's Lexile measure when logging into the Parent Portal website through Istation Home.
