ISRA Urges Governor Rauner To Sign Gun Regulation Reforms Into Law
SPRINGFIELD, Ill., June 1, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following was released today by the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA):
The ISRA is congratulating the Illinois General Assembly for its efforts in passing SB836 – a bill to reform two very important Illinois firearm regulations. Enjoying strong bipartisan support in both chambers, SB836 clarifies a number of provisions of both the Illinois Firearm Concealed Carry Act and the Illinois Firearm Owner Identification(FOID)Act. The sweeping changes brought by SB836 will make both acts easier for citizens to understand and will remove enforcement hindrances to ensure fair and consistent application of the law.
"Passage of SB836 is a big step forward for Illinois," commented ISRA Executive Director, Richard Pearson. "Citizens and law-enforcement personnel labored for years under a FOID Act that was often ambiguous and presented problems with enforcement. SB836 fixes that. Likewise, Illinois' recently-passed concealed carry law needed a little polishing up to make it more practical and enforceable. All in all, SB836 will make it easier for a citizen to freely practice his or her right to self-defense while maintaining a clear understanding of the law."
"We are very happy to see such strong support for SB836 from both sides of the aisle," continued Pearson. "I'm hopeful that Gov. Rauner will see the same merits in SB836 as did the General Assembly and, in turn, sign this important bill into law."
The ISRA is the state's leading advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearms ownership. For more than a century, the ISRA has represented the interests of millions of law-abiding Illinois firearm owners.
