ISRA Puts Full Support Behind Proposed Niles, Illinois Gun Shop & Range
CHICAGO, July 4, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following was released today by the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA):
The ISRA announced today that the association fully supports the proposed opening of a gun shop and pistol range in a shuttered Niles, IL industrial building. At the same time, the ISRA is categorizing claims by gun control groups that gun shops and ranges pose a danger to the community as being, "unsubstantiated nonsense."
"The notion that school kids are somehow placed in jeopardy by gun shops is a red herring fabricated by extremists within the gun control movement," commented ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson. "Their goal is to whip up baseless fear among residents so as to build opposition to the proposed gun shop. There is absolutely no evidence out there that even remotely connects target ranges or gun retailers with violence against children. People who shoot up schoolhouses do it because they are crazy – not because there is a pistol range in the neighborhood."
"The fact of the matter is that those who are opposed to the Niles shop/range have a deep-seated dislike for guns and the people who own them," continued Pearson. "Gun controllers will stop at nothing to interfere with the right of the law-abiding citizen to freely exercise their Second Amendment rights. Telling outright lies about target ranges to prey on the fears of well-meaning parents is a hallmark of the gun control movement."
"The ISRA will be watching the July 7th Niles Village Board meeting very closely," said Pearson. "We trust that, when the topic of the gun shop/range is brought up for a vote that night, the Niles Village Board will ignore the lies of the gun controllers and treat the applicants with impartiality. We will carefully examine any board decision that appears to be an arbitrary rejection of the gun shop/range promoters' zoning application."
As part of its on-going effort to educate citizens in the workings of government, the ISRA has requested that firearm owners in the Niles area attend the village board meeting which commences at 7:00 PM at the Niles Village Hall, 1000 Civic Center Drive, Niles.
The ISRA is the state's leading advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearms ownership. For more than a century, the ISRA has represented the interests of millions of law-abiding Illinois firearm owners.
