Isolation Pioneer Menlo Security Receives US Patent for Adaptive Clientless Rendering (ACR)
Cyber security innovation enables new approach to malware prevention
MENLO PARK, Calif., Aug. 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- As malware and ransomware continue to plague Enterprise security teams, Menlo Security, a pioneer of cloud-based malware isolation, today announced that it has received a patent for its Adaptive Clientless Rendering (ACR) technology. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office recently issued U.S. Patent No. 9,391,832 providing protection for a key component of the company's innovative new approach to malware prevention. Originally filed on December 5th, 2011, the patented technology is now commercialized and gaining wide recognition with customers and analysts worldwide.
Based on work originating from professor Dawn Song, a leading cyber security researcher at the University of California at Berkeley, ACR offers a unique approach that isolates all active content in the cloud, safely mirroring it back to the user. ACR technology is the key to maintaining a transparent user experience while running Web, documents and email in an isolated environment.
"The vast majority of malware threats continue to come in via Web and email," said Gautam Altekar, co-author of the patent, Chief Architect and co-founder of Menlo Security "We have proven that Isolation technology can eliminate these threat vectors, and ACR provides a vital piece of intellectual property to make that possible at enterprise scale, without impacting the user experience."
The Problem:
Isolation holds the promise of completely eliminating malware from the Web and email, but most approaches to commercializing the technology have run into problems in stability, scalability and preserving a transparent user experience. Resource-hungry agents running on endpoints, proprietary browsers, device restrictions and slow execution have prevented the widespread adoption of Isolation technology.
Patented Solution:
Menlo Security's patented ACR technology provides the connection from the user's session running in the Menlo Security Isolation Platform (MSIP) to the user's native Web browser. ACR technology is simple to deploy, requires no endpoint software or plug-ins and delivers a 100% secure and completely native user experience, essentially indistinguishable from direct interaction with a web site.
Benefits of ACR
- Clientless Deployment: Eliminating the need for client software reduces the IT department's burden of endpoint software installation and maintenance, and with it, the risk of destabilizing the endpoint. The clientless nature also enables easy enterprise-wide deployment via in-network proxy configuration, as well as fully-centralized management of browsing policies and security updates across all devices within the enterprise network.
- A Transparent User Experience: Users do not perceive a difference from a native experience browsing the Web, which is critical for ensuring end-user productivity and buy-in. Isolation technology users no longer have to alter the way they browse the Web or be distracted by changes to their browser's behavior. Rendering speed and quality are essentially identical to native Web browsing for a broad range of media types including text and video, while day-to-day operations such as printing and copy-paste just work.
