Islamic Relief USA Urges Americans to Help Pakistan Flood Victims
More than 3 million affected as death toll rises to 1500
WASHINGTON, Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Islamic Relief USA, a Washington, D.C.-area relief and development organization, today urged Americans of all backgrounds to continue to help the more than three million people affected by the flashfloods and landslides in northwest Pakistan.
Thousands of homes and acres of farmland have been destroyed in Kyber-Pakhtunkhaw (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province) and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, uprooting entire communities and isolating victims, according to media reports.
Government officials claim the damage done by the floods is the worst ever done by a natural disaster in that area's history.
"Emergency shelters, plastic sheeting, hygiene kits, and food distribution are all areas that need immediate funding," said Abed Ayoub, CEO of Islamic Relief USA. "Children are especially at risk. We are calling on Americans of all backgrounds to help alleviate the suffering of the victims."
In the last few days, Islamic Relief USA's appeal has provided the following:
- Distributing tents and blankets in different parts of the flood-devastated region.
- Emergency latrines (bathrooms) will be set up at one of the campsites where there have already been 60 tents set by Islamic Relief.
- In Noshara, which is 100 km north of Pakistan's capital city Islamabad, the team provided food and water to more than 5,000 people.
- Working with the United Nations World Food Program to distribute food to 2,000 families in Bakhtiarabad
