Islamic Relief USA Launches Emergency Appeal for Indonesia Disaster Victims
More than 400 people killed, tens of thousands of people affected by tsunami, volcano eruptions
WASHINGTON, Nov. 1, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Islamic Relief USA, a Washington, D.C.-area relief and development organization, is launching an emergency campaign for the victims of the earthquake-generated tsunami and the volcano eruptions in Indonesia.
Tens of thousands of survivors are displaced as a result, and nearly 13,000 people are now living in makeshift shelters. More than 400 are now dead and more than 300 people are missing. The most immediate needs are food, water, shelter, according to media reports.
"We are calling on all Americans to act quickly to help ease the suffering in Indonesia," said Abed Ayoub, CEO of Islamic Relief USA. "Weather conditions are worsening and we cannot afford to wait to help the thousands of people struggling to strive."
Islamic Relief USA emergency's appeal will help provide food, water, clothing, and shelter to the thousands of victims. Field workers collaborate closely with local organizations to ensure efficiency and deliver aid to those in most need.

Islamic Relief began working in Indonesia in 2000 and registered its field office there in 2003 to implement development projects. When a series of earthquakes, including one of 7.6 magnitude, rocked the island nation in August 2009, Islamic Relief USA responded urgently, sending an aid shipment filled with medicine and medical supplies.
Islamic Relief also spearheaded a large-scale emergency response to the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, distributing food, tents and hygiene supplies to hundreds of survivors. In 2006, Islamic Relief responded to the Java earthquake, distributing necessary food items to 17 sub-districts just four hours after the quake hit.
