(ISC)2(R) Opens Nominations for Seventh Annual U.S. Government Information Security Leadership Awards and Expands Categories
Recognition Program Broadens as Information Security Becomes Recognized as Business Enabler
PALM HARBOR, Fla., April 26 /PRNewswire/ -- (ISC)2® ("ISC-squared"), the largest not-for-profit membership body of certified information security professionals worldwide with over 68,000 members in more than 135 countries, today announced the opening of nominations for the 2010 U.S. Government Information Security Leadership Awards (GISLA). The program has been broadened this year to include award categories beyond information security workforce improvement.
The GISLA program, established as part of (ISC)2's effort to recognize the ongoing commitment by federal information security leaders to build a highly qualified and ethical workforce, was expanded in 2010 to include recognition of individuals whose initiatives in the areas of technology, process/policy or community awareness have led to significant improvements in the security posture of a department, agency or the entire federal government.
"We have seen a significant increase in the number and areas of nomination submissions over the past six years, and we expect this to continue as information security is increasingly recognized as a business enabler for the federal government," said W. Hord Tipton, CISSP-ISSEP, CAP, CISA, executive director of (ISC)2 and former CIO for the U.S. Department of the Interior.
Nominations for the 2010 GISLAs are now being accepted in the following categories: Workforce Improvement; Process/Policy Improvement; Technology Improvement; Community Awareness; and Federal Contractor. Please visit the GISLA Website at www.isc2.org/gisla for detailed category descriptions.
A nominations committee comprised of twelve senior information security experts will review and select winners from the five categories of finalists based upon the selection criteria and eligibility requirements.
(ISC)2 officials and sponsors, including SAIC, Raytheon, and others will honor the 2010 GISLA winners on October 6, 2010, in the Washington D.C. Metro area. Howard A. Schmidt, a former (ISC)2 board member and current White House cybersecurity coordinator, is tentatively scheduled as keynote speaker.
