(ISC)2 Appoints Mark Johnson Director of Cybersecurity Advocacy for EMEA Region
40-year security industry veteran will focus on improving cyber awareness among government, education and private organizations
LONDON, July 12, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- (ISC)2 – the world's largest nonprofit membership association of certified cybersecurity professionals – today announced the appointment of Mark Johnson as director of cybersecurity advocacy for the EMEA region. In this role, Johnson will work to encourage corporations, governments, academic institutions and others to collaborate on strong cybersecurity policies, legislation and education in order to drive recruitment and professional development for the next generation of cybersecurity leaders in the region and help promote a safe and secure cyber world.
"Mark has spent a majority of the past 20 years training U.K. police forces and financial services firms on how to assess risk and investigate cybercrime," said (ISC)2 CEO David Shearer, CISSP. "As we continue to expand our member base and our educational offerings in EMEA, it becomes critical that we have a voice like Mark's who can explain how various trends, such as big data, can contribute to vulnerability and why training and certification are so essential in limiting the risk that organizations face today."
Based in London, Johnson will report to (ISC)2 Regional Managing Director for EMEA, Deshini Newman.
"It is a tall task for our members to stay ahead of the latest cybercrime tactics and identify attack vectors that keep changing shapes," said Newman. "Mark's singular talent for demystifying cybercrime will be a major asset not only for our member base in EMEA, but also for the market at large. We hope to give him a sizeable platform to affect change and drive awareness."
"There's never been a time in our history when cybersecurity education and training have been more important," said Johnson. "As devastating breaches become more commonplace, it's my belief that every IT professional needs a cybersecurity qualification and every employee needs awareness training. (ISC)2 has been at the forefront of this effort for decades and I look forward to applying my varied experience where it's needed."
