(ISC)2 and The Center for Cyber Safety and Education Open Application Period for 2018 Undergraduate Cybersecurity Scholarships
Scholarship program aims to bring more professionals into the cybersecurity field
CLEARWATER, Fla., Feb. 1, 2018 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- (ISC)²® – the world's largest nonprofit association of certified cybersecurity professionals – and its Center for Cyber Safety and EducationTM are accepting applications for its 2018 Undergraduate Cybersecurity Scholarship program. Multiple scholarships between $1,000 and $5,000 each will be awarded. The application period closes at midnight EST on March 15, 2018.
The (ISC)² Undergraduate Cybersecurity Scholarship program is administered by the Center for Cyber Safety and Education. With the global cybersecurity workforce gap, this program was created to inspire more people to become cybersecurity professionals. In total, (ISC)² and the Center for Cyber Safety and Education have provided over $1 million dollars in cybersecurity scholarships. International applicants are accepted.
"Given the global shortage of cybersecurity workers, this program is playing a critical role in building a pipeline of professionals who are ready to enter the workforce," said Patrick Craven, director of The Center for Cyber Safety and Education. "Seeing the impact that this scholarship program has on cybersecurity students around the world is very rewarding. Many of these students wouldn't be able to continue their education without this assistance."
The Center for Cyber Safety and Education evaluates applicants based on academic excellence, passion for the industry and financial need. Since 2011, the (ISC)² Undergraduate Scholarship program has made a lasting impact on these individuals:
"Thank you so much for choosing me to be a recipient of the Undergraduate Cybersecurity Scholarship. It helps us so much more than you can imagine and enables me to continue working towards my goal of making a difference in the world. Without your help, I wouldn't have been able to afford to go back to college this year and continue to study my dream job of working in digital forensics and cybersecurity. I promise you that I will use the skills I learn to help make the world a better place, and to protect as many people as I can. I hope to give back in the not-too-distant future to your foundation so that others who may need assistance can be shown the same kindness you have shown me. Thank you for helping me follow my dreams and allowing me to work towards protecting those in need."
-Brandon Brown (U.S.A.)
"Last year, I was at the verge of suspending my studies due to an increase in my family financial responsibilities and diminished income. I later learned about the (ISC)2 scholarship for information security students and applied. I must sincerely thank my instructor Luke Andresen for encouraging and recommending me for this scholarship. It is thanks to this scholarship that I hope to graduate in December 2017. The scholarship has paid for my tuition and textbooks. I am sincerely grateful to the (ISC)2 scholarship board for providing such a valuable resource. I strongly encourage fellow information security students to make use of this opportunity."
-Fonyuy Rose (Camaroon)
"I am honored to be able to accept the (ISC)2 Undergraduate Cybersecurity Scholarship. As a current undergraduate student, I am always excited to be able to learn new things in regards to information security and computer science. I chose to study information security because it is a field that is always facing new and growing challenges. I want to be able to help solve some of these issues and help keep our information protected. This scholarship will provide financial aid to allow me to continue in pursuing my goal of becoming a professional in information security."
-Rebecca George (South Korea)
