"All businesses and events are operating as normal in Destin, Fort Walton Beach, and Okaloosa Island, which was not impacted by the recent storm. There are so many fun activities this time of the year in the area, is a great time to plan your next trip."
The month of October is filled with exciting opportunities to take advantage of during an upcoming getaway. From the fun-filled annual fishing competition, the Destin Fishing Rodeo, and a tour of the excellent local seafood options during the Destin Seafood Festival, to a celebration of the arts at the Mattie Kelly Arts Festival; October is full of can't miss excitement. Fall also brings unique autumnal changes to this beach destination with the migration of Monarch butterflies. While visiting, take a walk through one of the federally preserved nature walks, like Henderson Beach State Park or Ross Marler Park on Okaloosa Island, to experience the natural beauty of the area.

Destin Fishing Rodeo, Oct. 1-31, 2017
October features the annual Destin Fishing Rodeo, which is a month-long fishing competition. While many visitors come to try their luck in the competition, the rodeo is a great time for all. The hub for activities is at AJ's Seafood and Oyster Bar, which hosts of the daily weigh-ins and where on-lookers can cheer for captains and anglers that come into the Harbor.
Destin Seafood Festival, Oct. 6-8, 2017
Where there is good fishing, there is great seafood. In Destin, known as the 'World's Luckiest Fishing Village," not only is there great fishing, there is amazing seafood. Now in its 39th year, the seafood festival highlights many of the acclaimed locally owned restaurants in Destin. Stroll down the Destin Harbor and get a sampling of the amazing local culinary offerings, live music on three different stages, and so much more. Admission is free, but VIP passes are available with unlimited tasting options.
Destin 5K Rodeo Run, Oct. 8, 2017
Grab those running shoes for the Destin 5K Rodeo Run, where everyone is invited to take part on Oct. 8. The 5k supports the Miss Destin Scholarship Fund and additional local charities. Runners and walkers will join the celebration at AJ's Seafood and Oyster Bar on Destin Harbor.
Mattie Kelly Festival of the Arts, Oct. 28-29, 2017
Celebrating the Emerald Coast and this premier area of Destin and Fort Walton Beach, the 22nd Annual Festival of the Arts showcases the original artwork of more than 100 artists from across the U.S. who will compete for $10,000 in cash award prizes. The festival is a celebration of art, music, food and family fun and runs from Oct. 28-29 at the Mattie Kelly Cultural Arts Village in Destin.
