Iris on the Move® RapID-Cam II Wins Security Industry Association New Product Showcase Award at ISC West
MENLO PARK, Calif., March 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- SRI Sarnoff's Iris on the Move (IOM) RapID-Cam II was named Best in Biometrics, Identification and Credentialing by the Security Industry Association (SIA) New Product Showcase (NPS) at ISC West 2012.
The IOM RapID-Cam II is a handheld, biometric enrollment and identity verification camera system. The self-contained device can enroll subjects into the database by capturing dual-iris images in less than 30 seconds. Once subjects are enrolled, the system verifies identity in less than one second. The RapID-Cam II can easily be operated using one hand, and puts the body of the user at a comfortable distance from the subject.
In addition, the system's built-in wireless connectivity with automatic or on-demand synchronization ensures that the latest information is always available in the home office and in the field. The portable device allows for numerous security applications—from pre-registering individuals as they wait in line at an entertainment venue or military checkpoint to enabling police officers on patrol to quickly identify subjects of interest.
"An easy-to-use, handheld, biometric device changes the landscape of possibilities for identity verification," said Steve Perna, executive director, Products and Services Division at SRI Sarnoff. "As recipients of the New Product Showcase award for three consecutive years, it's gratifying to know that the Security Industry Association recognizes the innovative and important work SRI Sarnoff is doing."
The New Product Showcase (NPS), sponsored by the Security Industry Association (SIA), is held annually in conjunction with International Security Conference (ISC) West in Las Vegas to recognize the best security product innovations. Since its inception in 1979, the NPS has been the security industry's premier awards-based marketing program. This year's NPS program had 70 entries.
