IRI Automates Big Data Integration Jobs with Oracle Scheduler
Dependent DW and Reorg Operations Can Run without ETL Suites
MELBOURNE, Fla., Dec. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Innovative Routines International (IRI), Inc., a leading developer of fast data management and data-centric protection software, has automated inter-dependent extraction (E), transformation (T), and loading (L) operations using Oracle's job scheduling engine, DBMS_SCHEDULER. An IRI white paper details and demonstrates the tie-in.
Data warehouse architects and DBAs use IRI FACT (Fast Extract), CoSort, and bulk database load utilities (like SQL*Loader) to perform ETL, accelerate existing ETL suites, or reorganize very large databases. According to Athena IT Solutions founder and BI/DW expert, Rick Sherman, "offloading to flat-file transforms and bulk-loading tables pre-sorted is the fastest, cheapest way to stage big data, and takes serious weight off the database."
After bringing these tasks into the popular IDE of Eclipse, "IRI went a step further and showed how Oracle users could perform ETL or set up unload/sort/reload (reorg) operations without costly ETL or scheduling packages," explained IRI Workbench developer Benjamin Burkett. Oracle-scheduled jobs can run inside the IRI Workbench GUI – which supports Oracle table connections for browsing and SQL operations – or in any database application context.
DBAs can specify not only when to initiate FACT unloads, CoSort sorts/transforms/reports, or bulk loads, but also set up dependencies between these processes. Burkett provided an example wherein a DBA "starts FACT at 2am, checks for success before running CoSort, and then confirms the table is not in use before running the pre-CoSort'ed direct path load into SQL*Loader."
About Oracle Job Scheduler
The Oracle Job Scheduler helps users manage and plan different tasks by implementing them without manual intervention. By scheduling jobs to operate at certain times, users can lower operating costs, execute jobs whenever they prefer, and minimize human errors.
