IPC The Hospitalist Company Expands Into Southern California
NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Jan. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- IPC The Hospitalist Company, Inc. (Nasdaq: IPCM), a leading national hospitalist physician group practice company, announced today that it has acquired Inland Hospitalist Medical Group, Inc. Based in Riverside, California, the acquisition is IPC's first in Southern California and represents the entry into a new market for the Company. IPC expects to add approximately 42,000 patient encounters annually from this acquisition.
R. Jeffrey Taylor, President and COO of IPC, commented, "We are very pleased to welcome Inland Hospitalists to the IPC group of practices. The large metropolitan areas in Southern California hold great potential for IPC as the rising costs of inpatient care cause hospitals and managed care organizations to carefully reassess their hospitalist programs. With the acquisition of Inland Hospitalists, we now have an entry point into this attractive market."
Vikram Sahay, DO, Inland co-founder, will remain with the group as Practice Group Leader. Dr. Sahay commented, "IPC's resources and capabilities will be extremely valuable not only to our practice, but also to the hospitals, payors, and medical groups that we serve. IPC's highly developed infrastructure and practice management programs will enable us to align with stakeholders' goals much more effectively than we could do on our own."
In a separate and unrelated transaction, IPC acquired the hospitalist practice of Gil Mejia, MD, based in Tampa, Florida.
