Iowa Education Consortium Chooses iBoss™ for Internet Content Filtering, CIPA Compliance for Iowa Public Schools
SAN DIEGO, July 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Following a thorough review and evaluation process, the Iowa Education Consortium (IEC) has awarded iBoss™ (http://www.iboss.com) a three-year contract to provide Internet content filtering and Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) compliance for over 300,000 students and staff in public schools throughout the state of Iowa.
"Five Iowa Area Education Agencies (AEAs) partnered with the IEC to bid Web content filtering. IT staff from four of the AEAs and Cedar Rapids Schools served on the evaluation committee," explained Jerry Cochrane, IEC coordinator. "After a very extensive review and a 30-day trial, the IEC awarded the contract to iBoss. The committee rated iBoss as excellent in their assistance in setting up unique requests during the 30-day trial. With the 'piggyback' bid language in the contract, any Iowa school may now take advantage of this pricing."
The IEC is tasked with bringing all AEA school purchasing programs under one legal umbrella and fiscal management group to provide a single purchasing program for all K-12 schools in Iowa. Under the consortium's agreement with iBoss parent company Phantom Technologies, Inc., iBoss will provide CIPA-compliant Internet content filtering and reporting to more than 90% of the students in the state of Iowa.
The iBoss Web Filters and Application Firewalls provide robust filtering solutions for large enterprises like the Iowa schools. The filters are CIPA-compliant out of the box, and system administrators can further customize filtering by URL category -- iBoss can filter 50 different categories, including adult, gambling and drug-related for both HTTP and SSL sites -- as well as by domain name and URL pattern. Additional filtering options include search keyword blocking, domain extensions, file extensions and SafeSearch enforcement.
While it is filtering, iBoss also monitors and logs all Internet activity. iBoss reports provide detailed accounts of all violations, traffic usage, network activity, and bandwidth consumption by group and individual user; the system can also e-mail detailed reports outlining Internet activity and reported traffic data.
"We are pleased to help the IEC and Iowa public schools protect students and ensure system-wide CIPA compliance," stated Peter Martini, COO of iBoss. "The entire iBoss team looks forward to building a strong relationship with the Iowa K-12 system."
