IoT Village Announces 2017 List of Speakers for Annual Hacker Event at DEF CON
Researchers from across the globe to present new security vulnerabilities afflicting medical devices, connected cars, sex toys, the industrial grid, and more.
BALTIMORE, July 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Independent Security Evaluators ("ISE"), the elite group of security consultants and researchers who organize IoT Village, which runs at several security conferences including DEF CON 25, today announced the list of speakers scheduled to present at the landmark security research event, which occurs July 28-30 in Las Vegas, NV.
The speakers represent many prominent security organizations, such as Kaspersky, Bitdefender, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and more.
"The caliber of research presented at this event has consistently been world-class, and this year is no different," notes Ted Harrington, one of the organizers of IoT Village. "By shining a spotlight on these security problems in connected devices, these researchers act as the catalyst for change."
The keynote address, delivered by Rick Ramgattie, a Security Analyst for ISE, will focus on rethinking how the manufacturer-researcher relationship can be a collaborative rather than combative one. Other highlights include a talk by Vladimir Dashchenko & Sergey Temnikov which includes over 80 previously unknown security vulnerabilities, and a talk by Alex "Jay" Balan that outlines a remote code execution flaw that afflicts 175,000 devices worldwide. For the first time in the history of IoT Village, there will be a panel session, populated by manufacturers to provide their perspective on the challenges unique to building secure IoT devices.
IoT Village organizers have also announced a new cohort of sponsors who have flocked to the event. "These companies are the innovators making big contributions to the future of IoT, and as sponsors they are the lifeblood of IoT Village," says Kevin Thomas, who runs sponsorships for the event. Sponsors include market makers such as General Electric, FitBit, Kwikset, Senrio, Phosphorus, Breadware, Tindie, Interel and NXT Robotics.
"The IoT Village is an event like no other. It was the first of its kind to spread awareness of the unique security challenges of embedded devices. It helps security practitioners expand their skills to include IoT. That's huge." says Stephen A. Ridley, CEO of Senrio Inc. In addition to general sponsorship, Senrio's product Senrio Insight is used by the IoT Village organizers to identify and monitor attacks on the IoT devices used in the event. "As a IoT security research-based company, supporting the IoT-Village is a great fit for us." says COO of Senrio Inc., Michael Tanji, a former intelligence officer and security startup co-founder.
IoT Village is welcoming sponsors for its entire event series, which also visits additional conferences such as RSA Conference USA, DerbyCon, ToorCon, BsidesDC, BsidesCharm, BSidesPuertoRico, and CypherCon. Interested parties should reach out to [email protected].
