GREEN BAY, Wis., Sept. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- IOD Incorporated, a leading provider of integrated HIM solutions to hospitals, IDNs, healthcare systems and clinics, today announced it will enter the testing phase of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) pilot program for the Electronic Submission of Medical Documentation (esMD).

IOD has been working towards connecting its online request of information tracking/reporting system, PRISM™, with the National Health Information Network (NHIN) project. The connection will enable IOD's customers to comply with Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) requests via NHIN and will replace the current paper or CD/DVD submission process.
Testing is scheduled to begin in the last week of September 2011 and is expected to conclude in November 2011. Upon conclusion of the testing process, IOD's customers will have the ability to submit documentation for requests from CMS approved review contractors electronically through the PRISM platform.
According to David Van Doren, President, Coding/HIM Consulting/EMR Abstraction Division, "CMS and the esMD project team estimate that over one million requests were made for audits last year. By offering the ability to electronically submit medical documentation to satisfy these audit requests, we are vastly improving efficiency and reducing the overhead associated with audit requests."
"As we have in the past, we will continue to closely monitor legislative activities and plan for enhancements to our technology and services to meet our clients' needs both now and in the future," adds William J. Sweeney, CTO, IOD Incorporated.
