PHOENIX, Oct. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- IO, a global leader in software-defined data centers, today leads an executive forum that examines the massive sustainability challenges facing enterprises and government organizations with regard to digital infrastructure. The day-long conference, featuring Gartner Research, will explore how big data analytics holds the key to advancing the efficiency, business continuity and performance of digital infrastructure, to transform IT operations. The event also marks the launch of IO.Applied Intelligence, a San Francisco-based division of IO with the primary mission to improve product performance for customers via data-driven research and development.
The interactive forum, taking place in San Francisco and intended for CIOs and other IT executives, will explore how data centers – as major advocates for advanced technology and power policy – are in prime position to tap big data, develop actionable insights and drive massive sustainability improvements across multiple industries.
The event features a keynote presentation by David Cappuccio, Managing Vice President and Chief of Research, Gartner Research on "The Evolution of the Infinite Data Center." Mr. Cappuccio will discuss the imperative that data center models progress to become software-defined, and therefore more efficient, economical, agile enablers of continuous growth.
Mr. Cappuccio will also join other leading thinkers in a panel called, "From Intelligence to Wisdom: Why Sustainability Needs Big Data." Other panelists include:
- Jonathan Koomey, Research Fellow, Steyer-Taylor Center for Energy Policy and Finance, Stanford University

The panel will be moderated by Patrick Flynn, Group Leader of Applied Intelligence & Sustainability at IO.
"Data center infrastructure houses a large and growing portion of electricity demand that is liquid in a way never before seen in the energy landscape," said Mr. Flynn. "Demand can move at the speed of light. Our expert panelists will review how to find more efficient ways to operate that infrastructure and intelligently manage demand. They will discuss how the data center industry can take a leadership role in sustainability, in ways not only impacting our industry but the private and public landscape overall."
