IO Launches IO.Applied Intelligence to Transform Digital Infrastructure
New R&D Center in San Francisco Brings Together Brightest Minds in Engineering and Data Analytics
PHOENIX, Oct. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- IO, a global leader in software-defined data centers, today announced IO.Applied Intelligence, a new division of IO, with the primary mission to improve product performance for customers via data-driven research and development. Innovations from IO.Applied Intelligence will squeeze inefficiencies out of the IT value chain from power source to end user, and drive relentless digital infrastructure improvements to define the vast new market of Enterprise Cloud.
IO.Applied Intelligence is tasked with deriving actionable intelligence from the huge amounts of operating data collected by IO.OS®, the IO data center operating system. A team of world-class engineers and data scientists, led by Patrick Flynn, Group Leader, Applied Intelligence & Sustainability at IO, will develop and deliver capabilities in data mining and visualization, predictive modeling and simulation.
"The data center is the ideal place to fundamentally, comprehensively and enduringly address today's IT and sustainability challenges," said George Slessman, IO Chief Executive Officer and Product Architect. "Finding more efficient ways to operate digital infrastructure and intelligently manage demand will bring economic, environmental and social gains. As a result, IO.Applied Intelligence is positioned to solve big problems and attract the world's most talented data experts – great minds who have a passion to solve energy and information challenges."
Among the programs already underway at IO.Applied Intelligence are:
- Assessing power, cooling, networking and space capacity within IO's global Data Center as a Service (DCaaS™) footprint to improve performance;
- Composing analytical models to quantify value and cost for the data center environment to drive more efficient usage and operations;
- Working with IO's CSO Bob Butler to continually evolve physical and logical security associated with the converged IO technology platform; and
- Partnering with leaders in data analytics including McLaren Applied Technology, leading consultants to the IO.Applied Intelligence research team.
The value created by IO.Applied Intelligence is expected to manifest in greater IT performance in areas such as infrastructure security, uptime, efficiency, latency, sustainability and system longevity. The group will create new value-added services such as bill forecasting, capacity management and simulation, and will make product recommendations to IO's hardware and software development teams.
"We live in a software-defined era. The value of IT going forward will be driven by software; even hardware-design enhancements will be software derived and data driven. Data has brought smarter systems to city planning, logistics, and healthcare, but only now are we are we bringing that same intelligence to the design and operations of digital infrastructure itself," said Mr. Flynn.
The IO Intelligent Control platform consists of standardized, UL-listed IO.Anywhere® modules that are controlled by the IO.OS® data center operating system, software designed to provide unprecedented visibility and the rich data necessary to derive actionable intelligence from digital infrastructure operations. IO Intelligent Control was created to deliver superior business agility, energy efficiency, physical and logical security, and reliability than competitive offerings, while lowering cost associated with data center deployment and operation.
