Invictus Games Orlando 2016: 50 Day Countdown
Prince Harry Marks 50 Days with a special message
Toronto to host 2017 Invictus Games
WASHINGTON, March 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Prince Harry released a special video message to mark the 50 Day Countdown to Invictus Games Orlando 2016, presented by Jaguar Land Rover, and announced the Invictus Games 2017 will be hosted by Canada. The Invictus Games are the only international adaptive sporting event for injured, active and veteran service members.
Prince Harry's message will be played at a celebratory event at the Embassy of Canada this evening to inspire 2016 competitors as they continue their training and to announce future plans for the Invictus Games 2017.
"The last Invictus Games inspired tens of thousands of people and was enjoyed by millions of others around the world," said Prince Harry. "I always hoped the Invictus story would continue after the London games. And having seen so many new people benefit from their journey to Orlando this year, I definitely didn't want it to end here. So today, I am absolutely delighted to announce that the Invictus legacy will continue when Toronto hosts the third Invictus Games in September 2017."
Other U.S. and Canadian team competitors along with special guest Canadian actor, writer and director, Mike Myers, will attend the celebratory event.
"Each one of the competitors traveling to Orlando in just over 50 days represent an unconquerable, Invictus spirit," said Myers. "They've been bloodied by war, undergone surgery upon surgery, facing some of the darkest pain imaginable. Yet, each of them have an unwillingness to let circumstance determine fate. I am inspired to help generate a wider understanding and respect for those who serve their country, as well as their families and caregivers. The Games begin May 8th in Orlando, they continue in 2017, and may they continue each year for many years to come."
With the Games 50 days away, fans can now purchase their seats by visiting http://invictusgames2016.org/tickets/. Tickets are $18.00, with a discount for children under the age of 12, the elderly, and military. Fans who cannot make it to Orlando can still be a part of the action by watching the events on ESPN, the official broadcaster of the competition.
"We are 50 days closer to seeing competitors through to the finish line," said Ken Fisher, Co-CEO of the Invictus Games Orlando 2016. "The Games are an opportunity for nations to honor the sacrifice and determination of all our servicemen and women. Each of the competitors participating in the Invictus Games Orlando 2016, have shown strength in times of adversity and have used adaptive sports to further their recovery. Let them be an inspiration to us all."
