Investing in Our Future: Schools Summit Coming to Pasadena
PASADENA, Calif., Nov. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The 2014 Green California Schools and Community Colleges Summit, coming to the Pasadena Convention Center November 5-6, is an exciting mix of new technologies, expert training, special events and inspiring keynotes.
The program begins on November 4, with a pre-Summit Zero Net Energy (ZNE) Schools workshop presented in partnership with New Buildings Institute and the California Public Utilities Commission. As discussed in a recent Green Technology article, it's more possible than ever for schools to develop high-efficiency facilities that can meet their energy needs through on-site power generation.
On November 5, the Summit's opening session will feature keynote presentations by State Senator Fran Pavley and Rear Admiral Len Hering (U.S. Navy, retired). Senator Pavely, a former teacher, has authored landmark environmental legislation, including California's landmark Global Warming Solutions Act. As Commander of the Navy Region Southwest, Admiral Hering developed a team recognized throughout the Department of Defense as the best in environmental conservation.
A wide-ranging education program on November 5-6 brings together many of the state's leading practitioners to share their expertise and experience on topics ranging from planning and executing Prop 39-funded efficiency projects to water conservation, funding for building and energy projects and curriculum.
On November 5, a session hosted by the Statewide Environmental Literacy Task Force (ELTF) created by Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson addresses the roadmap ELTF is developing that can guide the development of environmental literacy programs in California Schools, The ELTF is hosting a "listening session" to gather input from education stakeholders from 1:30-4:30 pm. This event is open to all session attendees.
A half-day session on November 6 will focus on the job creation aspects of Prop 39, from strategies and resources to create on-campus apprenticeship preparation training programs to guidelines for tracking jobs created by Prop 39-funded projects.
One of the most popular features of the Summit, is an Expo featuring over 100 companies offering green products and services, from lighting solutions and energy management software to building materials, renewable energy and irrigation technology.
