CHICAGO, July 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Invest in Others Charitable Foundation, Inc., a public charity that supports the philanthropic and volunteer efforts of financial advisors across the country, today announced its third annual 5K Run/Walk event to be held in Chicago on Sunday, August 7, 2011.
The race is open to the public, including runners and walkers of all skill levels. Online registration instructions and additional information are located at http://www.investinothers.org/5k.
Invest in Others will make a donation of $25,000 on behalf of race participants to BUILD, a Chicago-based charity committed to ending gang violence in the city. The funds will be used to support approximately 3,700 youths in the Chicago area with violence prevention and intervention, youth development, and coalition building, so they may realize their educational and career potential and contribute to the stability, safety, and well-being of their community.
In addition, Invest in Others will award the fastest male and female runners and the runners-up in two categories with a generous donation to the charity of their choice.
"The third annual Invest in Others 5K Run/Walk promises to once again be a meaningful way to support a worthwhile local charity while celebrating financial advisors for their humanitarian efforts, philanthropic spirit, and commitment to improving lives," said Kandis Bates, president of the Invest in Others Charitable Foundation. "We are proud of the profound impact this annual event has across the nation, and we're particularly pleased to hold this year's run/walk in Chicago—a city with a strong and diverse financial services community. All members of the financial services industry—as well as all Chicago-area runners and walkers—are encouraged to join us to make a positive difference for at-risk Chicago youth while enjoying a fun workout along scenic Lake Michigan."
"BUILD is honored to be selected as the recipient of funds raised through the Invest in Others 5K Run/Walk," said Kristin Gaspar, Director of Development & Marketing. "These funds will be used to impact at least 3,700 at-risk youth by engaging them in activities that reduce risk-taking behaviors, develop life skills, and help them achieve their personal, educational, and career potential in order to become stable, contributing community members and leaders. We are sincerely grateful for this organization's generosity that allows us to carry out our vital work."
Kandis Bates concluded, "We are very thankful to all of the financial services companies and members of the greater Chicago community whose generosity has made this event possible. Our work would not be possible without them."
