PITTSBURGH, March 2, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- An inventor from Gallup, N.M., has developed the BLOCKDOWN, a device that can be used to secure a classroom or another door in a mass shooting scenario in a school or related structure. A prototype is available.
"Due to the increase in school shootings, I was looking for a way to securely keep my classroom door from being opened from the outside by an active shooter," said the inventor. The BLOCKDOWN increases the security of the structure in question. It can be slipped into place in the matter of seconds, thus preventing the door in question from being opened. In turn, this may prevent a shooter from accessing a room or area of a building. It allows more time to get students out of the way and to safety, which may prevent injuries and save lives. This lightweight and easy-to-attach device is adaptable for use on most outward opening doors. Ultimately, it may provide peace of mind to concerned individuals.
