Introducing "thriftitude" - Change Your Attitude about Money via Twitter
The Illinois CPA Society's latest financial literacy effort uses social media to reach new audiences
CHICAGO, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- There's a new resource for anyone looking to change their attitude about money. The Illinois CPA Society is using Twitter for their latest financial literacy effort - @thriftitude.
@Thriftitude aims to carve its own niche among other Twitter accounts offering financial tips. Through a mix of tweets providing links to interesting and useful information, the Society hopes to increase the public's awareness of issues affecting their finances. @thriftitude also offers definitions of finance terms, local "deals" and various thoughts and reminders to help people adjust their attitude about saving, spending and managing money.
The Society has always been a financial literacy advocate; the growing need to improve financial literacy in the current economy, combined with the ever increasing use of social media and technology, made the time right for a new communication method like Twitter to reach people on a regular, real time basis.
According to the National Foundation for Credit Counseling's (NFCC) annual Consumer Financial Literacy Study released this spring, nearly four out of five adults agree they would benefit from financial advice from a professional. The Illinois CPA Society encourages people to start thinking differently about their money by visiting @thriftitude where they can get a glimpse of the financial guidance offered by CPAs.
