INTEX Study Reveals Over Half of Americans Lie to Avoid Rough Sleeping Arrangements During Holidays
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ --The holidays are a time to reconnect with loved ones, but when the lights go out, some uncomfortable realities set in – such as when you're assigned a less-than-desirable place to sleep. According to a recent survey from INTEX, the leading manufacturer of inflatable air beds and mattresses, more than half (52%) of American adults (18+) have made up an excuse to a relative during the holidays specifically to avoid uncomfortable sleeping arrangements at their home.
The inclination to come up with an excuse is one learned from experience. Indeed, the vast majority (81%) of Americans have been left sleeping in or on some fairly uncomfortable bedding options when visiting relatives during the holidays.
"During the holidays, Americans should be enjoying their time and celebrating with family, not coming up with excuses to avoid hurting their relative's feelings," said Marvin Natareno, Marketing Manager, Intex Recreation Corp. "We were surprised by the odd variety and sometimes uncomfortable nature of the sleeping arrangements many Americans have been subjected to over the holidays."
The survey further revealed some of these not-so-swell sleeping arrangements as follows:
- 62% admitted they had been relegated to a couch
- 39% had been provided a bed that was too small
- 44% slept on the floor, such as in a sleeping bag
- 13% (more than 1 in 10) of adults have found themselves assigned to a child's themed bed
- 7% have had to resort to sleeping in a tent
"With more than half of American adults admitting they have made up an excuse to avoid an uncomfortable sleeping arrangement - apparently with very good reason - INTEX suggest both hosts and visitors alike avoid this major pitfall and consider an affordable, convenient and high-quality air bed as a solution," added Natareno.

Touchy Topic:
It's not surprising that many Americans get tense about their holiday bedding assignments. Forty six percent (46%) of Americans report that during holiday visits with relatives, figuring out sleeping arrangements is more likely to cause an argument than deciding on a TV show or movie for everyone to watch.
Worse for Parents:
The constant chaos of child-rearing can leave parents exhausted and desperately craving a good night's sleep. In fact, parents are significantly more likely than non-parents to have made up an excuse to avoid uncomfortable holiday sleeping arrangements at a relative's home (67% of parents vs. 43% non-parents) and they are more likely (53% of parents surveyed found more fighting or arguments over sleeping arrangements than deciding on which TV show or movie for everyone to watch.
"Apparently there is very good reason that travelers are on alert when it comes to travel and their sleeping comfort. We encourage sleepers to take matters into their own hand with a convenient, affordable INTEX high-quality air bed as a solution to their anticipated sleeping stress this holiday season," added Natareno.
