Interstitial Cystitis Association Receives National Health Information Award
"ICA Update" Publication Wins Honor for Educating and Empowering Patient Community
WASHINGTON, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Interstitial Cystitis Association, the only nonprofit health association dedicated solely to improving the lives of those affected by interstitial cystitis (IC), was recently honored with an award from the National Health Information Resource Center. The organization received honors for a special issue of its ICA Update – a quarterly magazine focused on current IC research, treatment, and lifestyle issues.
The ICA Update's "Self Help" issue hit homes and offices in the winter of 2009 and featured a variety of articles centered on empowering patients to take control of their treatment. Stories touched on topics including rekindling sexuality in the face of pelvic pain, administering bladder installations at home, building a customized exercise program, improving sleep, and the importance of diet in managing symptoms. The issue was praised throughout the patient community for providing practical tips and advice on a range of treatment options.
"The Interstitial Cystitis Association is dedicated to making sure the millions of people who struggle with IC have access to the information they need to lead healthier and happier lives," said Barbara Gordon, executive director of the ICA. "We are proud to receive the prestigious National Health Information Award for our work in the ICA Update."
The National Health Information Awards program honors high-quality consumer health information. The awards program is organized by the Health Information Resource Center, a national clearinghouse for consumer health professionals who work in consumer health education fields. A panel of consumer health experts from across the nation judged the entries based on content, format, success in reaching the targeted audience, and overall quality.
