Interscope Geffen A&M Has Record-Breaking Week
LABEL LANDS TOP FIVE SPOTS ON THE MAINSTREAM TOP 40 CHART
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Aug. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Interscope Geffen A&M makes history yet again this week, landing the top five entries on the Mainstream Top 40 chart—a record which is not only impressive, but a first for any major label. The news comes right after another historic moment: Robin Thicke's smash single "Blurred Lines" (Star Trak/Interscope) made headlines after reaching #1 on five different radio formats -- Top 40, Rhythmic, Hot AC, Urban, and Urban AC -- beginning the week of August 12th and maintaining its position at those formats through this week. The song has been #1 on the Hot 100 chart for the past eleven weeks.
"Blurred Lines" joins Zedd's "Clarity" (Interscope), Maroon 5's "Love Somebody" (A&M Octone), "Radioactive" from Imagine Dragons (kidinakorner/Interscope), and Ellie Goulding (Cherrytree/Interscope) -- featured on Calvin Harris' "I Need Your Love" -- in grabbing the top five slots on the chart. "This is the result of hard work and team effort," commented Brenda Romano, President, Promotion, Interscope Geffen A&M. "Both by the artists who made undeniable records and worked with us to ensure their success, and the promotion staff who have been out there every day making sure the records got their shots."
The latest news continues a momentum-filled streak for the label. Thicke and Imagine Dragons have this year's top two selling tracks, respectively, with "Blurred Lines" having sold over 5 million copies and "Radioactive" at 4.9 million copies. In addition, this past weekend's MTV Video Music Awards featured exciting performances from Thicke, Lady Gaga, and explosive newcomer, Kendrick Lamar.
