Internet Storm Center Incident Handlers to Talk Cyber Threats at SANSFIRE 2014
ISC Handlers to Detail Malicious Activity on the Internet Including Heartbleed, Cyberterrorism, and Insider Threats
BETHESDA, Md., June 12, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SANS Institute today announced the return of SANSFIRE, SANS' annual Internet Storm Center (ISC) training event. SANSFIRE 2014 will take place in Baltimore, MD June 21 – 30. This unique event brings together ISC handlers from around the world as they share their most interesting experiences and the newest cyber hazards.
"Just in March alone, we dealt with infected DVRs, compromised web applications in disk storage devices and worms taking out large numbers of routers in addition to the major flaw in SSL. Security has never been as complex, diverse and fast moving as today. Luckily, the Internet Storm Center (ISC) has a uniquely diverse and qualified group of volunteers helping us all understand these threats better. During SANSFIRE, many of these same volunteers will be available during our panel to discuss these problems first hand, " stated Johannes Ullrich, Ph.D., ISC Director and SANS Senior Instructor.
Some of this year's highlights include a talk by ISC handler Rob VandenBrink on Consulting from a Virtual Island; Adrien de Beaupre will present Bust a Cap in a Web App With ZAP; Russ McRee will discuss C3CM Defeating the Command, Control, and Communications of Digital Assailants; Manuel Humberto Santander Pelez, will discuss Avoiding Cyberterrorism Threats Inside Electrical Substations. Additionally, Dr. Ullrich will be joined by Marcus Sachs, ISC Director Emeritus, as they lead a State of the Internet Panel Discussion.
The ISC is a SANS Institute program which monitors the level of malicious activity on the Internet. For more than 10 years this free resource has been providing analysis and warning to Internet users and organizations alike. In addition to SANS top-rated courses, SANSFIRE 2014 offers attendees a unique opportunity to meet ISC handlers in-person as well as participate in the ever-popular NetWars challenge.
All SANSFIRE 2014 courses directly address the kinds of incidents reported by the ISC in their daily diaries.
