PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 13, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- American Law Institute Continuing Legal Education (ALI CLE) has announced that International Trust and Estate Planning 2017 will be held on November 9 - 10, 2017, in San Antonio, Texas. This annual event is the premier course offering the high-level information and strategies necessary to effectively advise both U.S. and international trust estate planning clients. This course will address many perennial topics, such as the complications encountered in estate planning for U.S. clients with foreign property and the complexities of planning for foreign trusts. Additionally, it will offer an in-depth review of the factors that should be considered when providing tax and estate planning advice to wealthy individuals and families with both U.S. and foreign contacts.
Celebrating its twentieth year, the International Trust and Estate Planning 2017 program will include new sessions to explore current issues in foreign trust-related income tax, concerns involving nonresident aliens, and detailed guidance for staying vigilant when upholding anti-money laundering rules. This year's program will also feature special panels lead by Carolyn Schenck, Senior Counsel of the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, and Mark Matthews, a former Deputy IRS Commissioner, as they report on the IRS's current offshore enforcement initiatives and the tax compliance alternative available to U.S. taxpayers.
Other topics to be addressed at the conference include:
- Fiduciary income tax rules that apply to trusts with foreign grantors and foreign non-grantor trusts
- The growing automatic exchange of tax information schemes of FATCA and the Common Reporting System
- U.S. and transfer tax regimes applicable to nonresident aliens
- A discussion of estate planning issues facing Americans investing overseas, with emphasis on cross-border investments in Mexico
"This program has always been considered one of the best of its type, and this year will be no exception," said Planning Co-Chair, Michael G. Pfeifer, Caplin & Drysdale, Chartered. M. Read Moore, McDermott Will & Emery, will also co-chair the program.
