International Trial Lawyer Lee Crawford Boyd Joins McKool Smith
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- McKool Smith, one of America's leading trial firms, has announced that international trial lawyer Lee Crawford Boyd has joined the firm as a principal in its Los Angeles office. Ms. Boyd has more than 25 years of experience handling matters involving foreign affairs, cross-border disputes, property restitution law, international human rights, and complex commercial litigation and arbitration.
Ms. Boyd has tried more than 30 cases, including jury trials, in New York and California, and argued more than 10 appeals in federal and state court. She has represented clients in many high-profile disputes, including matters involving terrorist hijacking victims, Holocaust restitution, and restitution of cultural property arising from the Armenian Genocide, among other cases. She also has significant experience representing plaintiffs in national and state class actions involving claims related to property restitution, employment, and antitrust matters, among others.
Before entering private practice, Ms. Boyd was a tenured faculty member of Pepperdine Law School specializing in International Litigation and Civil Procedure. She also served the government as a criminal prosecutor in the New York County District Attorney's Office and clerked for the Hon. Hector M. Laffitte, U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, and by designation to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Prior to joining McKool Smith, Ms. Boyd was a partner in a national law firm, and a founding partner of a litigation boutique in California.
"Lee is a very accomplished litigator and trial lawyer. I am pleased to welcome her to the firm," said McKool Smith's Managing Principal David Sochia. "Her trial experience fits perfectly with our firm, and her practice, particularly as it relates to foreign affairs and international human rights matters, adds a new area of expertise that we are excited to explore."
"I was naturally drawn to McKool Smith's reputation as a trial powerhouse," Ms. Boyd explained. "When cases go to trial, your clients need to be assured that they are in good hands and with a firm that has a track record of success in the courtroom. McKool Smith certainly has that in spades. The firm also has a strong presence in both New York and California, which I was very much attracted to for the continued growth of my practice."
Ms. Boyd's arrival marks the second lateral principal hire in McKool Smith's Los Angeles office this year. In April, the office welcomed insurance litigator Michael John Miguel, along with two associates, who joined the firm's insurance recovery practice, which was launched in February with the joining of 14 attorneys, including seven principals, from Kasowitz Benson.
With more than 180 trial lawyers across offices in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Marshall, New York, Silicon Valley, and Washington, D.C., McKool Smith has established a reputation as one of America's leading trial firms. Since 2006, the firm has secured nine nine-figure jury verdicts and ten eight-figure jury verdicts. The firm has also won more VerdictSearch and The National Law Journal "Top 100 Verdicts" over the last ten years than any other law firm in the country. Courtroom successes like these have earned McKool Smith critical acclaim and helped the firm become what The Wall Street Journal describes as "one of the biggest law firm success stories of the past decade." McKool Smith represents clients in complex commercial litigation, intellectual property, bankruptcy, and white collar defense matters.
