International Society for Performance Improvement Honors 4 Outstanding PI Professionals

Awards Presented at International Conference in Toronto

WASHINGTON, April 4, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) today announced the recipients of its four prestigious 2012 Honorary Awards. The awards recognize outstanding individuals for their significant contributions to the performance improvement field and to ISPI. Honorees will receive their awards at THE Performance Improvement Conference Awards of Excellence Luncheon, April 21, in Toronto.

The Thomas F. Gilbert Distinguished Professional Achievement Award recognizes those who have made outstanding contributions to the knowledge and practice of performance improvement. Carl Binder, CPT, PhD, of The Performance Thinking Network in Seattle, Wash., is the 2012 recipient of this award. He began his career as a doctoral student in experimental psychology at Harvard University and studied with B.F. Skinner.  He was associate director of a human behavior research laboratory from 1973 to 1982 and began consulting in 1974, founding four companies, most recently The Performance Thinking Network. For almost 30 years, Binder has developed and refined the Six Boxes® Approach, practical approaches to performance measurement and decision-making. Binder has belonged to ISPI since the mid-1980s, and has served on committees, led chapters, and spoken at nearly every conference.

The Geary Rummler Award for the Advancement of Performance Improvement recipients are Roger M. Addison, CPT, EdD, and J. Robert Carleton. The award is granted to individuals or organizations that have demonstrated and reflect the work and life of Rummler, as the award honors his legacy and advancement of both HPT and ISPI's principles and practices.

Roger Addison, of Addison Consulting in Sausalito, Calif., is an internationally respected practitioner of performance improvement consulting and chief performance officer for Addison Consulting. He was the senior director of human performance improvement for ISPI and was responsible for educational programs and implementing performance improvement systems.  Prior to his work with ISPI, Addison was vice president and manager at Wells Fargo Bank. Currently, he consults with Fortune 500 organizations to help them align their business requirements with bottom-line results. 

J. Robert "Bob" Carleton of Vector Group in Denver, Colo., was an original co-founder of Vanguard Consulting Group (1985) and later Vector Group Inc. (1993), Vector Europe Ltd., and currently Vector Group Inc. (2009). Carleton is a research professor at the Sonora (Mexico) Institute of Technology. He is also a global thought leader and pioneer in the emerging field of cultural due diligence and its application in successful merger and acquisition integrations. His career represents more than 35 years of experience and he is an internationally recognized authority in organizational performance and effectiveness.

Carol Haig, CPT, of Carol Haig & Associates in San Francisco, Calif., is the recipient of ISPI's Honorary Life Member Award. This honor is bestowed on a member for the totality of his or her contributions to both ISPI and the field of performance improvement during the course of his or her career. Haig started her career with the Fireman's Fund as an instructional designer and progressed to vice president of performance at Wells Fargo before starting her own consultancy. She joined ISPI in the mid-1980s and served as president to the ISPI Bay Area Chapter in 1988. She went on to serve on national-level committees and as a director on the executive board of ISPI (1988-2000).

The ISPI Distinguished Service Award recipient is Eileen R. Banchoff, CPT, PhD, of Banchoff Associates, Inc. in Detroit, Mich., for her long-term, outstanding and significant contributions to ISPI. After spending 20 years in the public school sector teaching junior and senior high school students, she switched careers to build a consulting practice, which marked the beginning of her more than 25-year involvement in ISPI and the ISPI Michigan Chapter. By the mid-1990s, Banchoff was elected to the Michigan Chapter Board of Directors as the vice president of communications and then president.  She continues to help with local chapter programming, liaising with universities and new student members, and mentoring local chapter leaders. Additionally, Banchoff has volunteered on the International Society level, assisting with conference program planning and serving on conference committees.

THE Performance Improvement Conference, sponsored by ISPI, will be held April 18-23, 2012, at the Sheraton Centre Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The conference offers 100+ hours of professional development on performance improvement, instructional design, organizational development, and training. This year's conference will feature special events celebrating the Society's 50th Anniversary.
