International Roller Derby Playoffs Series Begins Aug. 15
Top Women's Flat Track Roller Derby Teams Compete for Championship
AUSTIN, Texas, Aug. 11, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The top 60 women's flat track roller derby leagues in the world will compete for the sport's top honors in the 2014 Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) Division 1 and 2 Playoffs, a series of six international tournaments between Aug. 15 and Oct. 5.
The international WFTDA Playoffs and Championships tournament series brings together the most talented, highly trained and committed skaters and officials from WFTDA member leagues. Whether participating on the track, cheering in the stands or watching the broadcast, the WFTDA tournaments provide everyone who loves roller derby an opportunity to witness the most anticipated match-ups of the year.
The top 40 ranked teams of the 259 WFTDA member leagues will compete in four Division 1 Playoffs, hoping to advance to the WFTDA D1 Championships. Teams ranked 41-60 will compete in the Division 2 Playoffs, with the top finishers also advancing to the D2 games at the WFTDA Championships, Oct. 31-Nov. 2 in Nashville, Tennessee.
This year's tournament dates and locations are:
- Aug. 15-17: Division 2, Duluth, Minnesota, USA.
- Aug. 22-24: Division 2, Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
- Sept. 5-7: Division 1, Sacramento, California, USA.
- Sept. 19-21: Division 1, Evansville, Indiana, USA.
- Sept. 26-28: Division 1, Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.
- Oct. 3-5: Division 1, Charleston, West Virginia, USA.
- Oct. 31-Nov. 2: Championships, Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
