International Rescue Committee Secures Beneficiary, Donor and Employee Information with Secret Server
Global Humanitarian Aid Organization Improves Internal Efficiency and Increases Security of Privileged Accounts
WASHINGTON, Sept. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Thycotic, a provider of smart and effective privileged access management solutions for global organizations, today announced that the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is using Secret Server to securely manage privileged account passwords to strengthen the protection of sensitive beneficiary, donor and employee information.
Founded in 1933, the IRC responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises by offering lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. Operating in over 40 countries and placing beneficiaries in 22 U.S. cities, IRC's IT team is responsible for overseeing the infrastructure needed to support nearly 12,000 employees worldwide. Prior to working with Thycotic, important passwords and other credentials were being stored and shared in a number of disparate ways, leading to inefficiency and leaving the organization open to potential security vulnerabilities such as cyber-attacks.
"In the past, user credentials that needed to be shared by administrators in different locations for various accounts were stored in files that were difficult to access if the owner was not in the office. This led to many complications due to the fact that we operate in a number of different countries all around the globe," said Michael Boeglin, director of global infrastructure at International Rescue Committee. "Our IT administrators were able to get up to speed with Secret Server within minutes and our control over data security was improved immediately. By adopting a tool that manages our sensitive credentials for us, we no longer face the inefficiencies that can plague an organization as big as ours."
In addition to improvements in efficiency, IRC is also better equipped to perform its own internal IT security review each year by taking advantage of Secret Server's auditing capabilities. As the organization seeks to better protect donors' credit card transactions, Secret Server enables IRC to maintain a more secure network. IT teams can better mitigate vulnerabilities by using unique, rotating passwords for every privileged account, reducing the risk of losing a single password that would compromise multiple systems.
"Organizations like the International Rescue Committee are responsible for storing sensitive personal information about the people they serve as well as employees and donors who expect their contributions to be protected," said Jonathan Cogley, founder and CEO of Thycotic. "With Secret Server, the IRC's IT team can focus on improving internal operations that benefit the organization's overarching goal of serving those affected by manmade and natural disasters around the world, while having peace of mind that their privileged accounts are secure and well-monitored."
