LOS ANGELES, June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- International Medical Corps is proud to be selected as a partner in Members Project from American Express and TakePart, an innovative campaign that provides simple ways people can make a big difference in the world. Those steps include voting weekly for a favorite charity, spreading the word to friends, volunteering time, and donating. And participants don't have to be a cardmember to vote. International Medical Corps is included in the "Health and Wellness" category. After a three-month voting period that ends August 22, 2010, five charities will be chosen among 49 to each receive $200,000 in funding from American Express and TakePart.
International Medical Corps' participation in social action campaigns like Members Project is critical in the aftermath of disasters like the Haiti earthquake, as the focus shifts from relief to self-reliance. On the ground in Port-au-Prince just 22 hours after the quake, International Medical Corps was able to draw on 25 years of experience in emergency settings, including Hurricane Katrina and the Indian Ocean tsunami. Long after other relief agencies have left, International Medical Corps continues to provide critical health care programs and long-term training to local health workers. It is committed to providing Haiti and other affected communities worldwide with the tools to recover and rebuild for the future.
"Participating in Members Project provides a much-needed platform to inspire the public to take action. We salute American Express and TakePart for presenting such an innovative campaign," said Rebecca Milner, International Medical Corps' Vice President of Institutional Advancement. "As Haiti begins the transition from the initial emergency to rebuilding long-term, it is imperative that organizations like ours are able to provide ongoing resources, supplies and training."
Members Project from American Express and TakePart encourages everyone, including non-cardmembers to vote weekly for their charity. Supporters of International Medical Corps can visit www.takepart.com/membersproject/vote to cast a vote in support of its work.
International Medical Corps relieves the suffering of those impacted by war, natural disaster and disease by delivering vital health care services that focus on training, helping devastated populations return to self-reliance.
