WASHINGTON, Jan. 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Tomas Solis, formerly an associate in the International Arbitration practice group at Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP, has joined Patton Boggs LLP. Resident in the firm's Washington DC office, Mr. Solis joins Patton Boggs' International Arbitration practice group as of counsel. His global perspective is derived from legal experience in the international offices of some of the world's leading law firms, before international adjudicative bodies and from the study of international law and policy at the post-graduate level.

Mr. Solis joins Patton Boggs with substantial experience in international law, arbitration and mediation. At Dewey & LeBoeuf, he represented sovereign governments in international arbitrations arising under bilateral investment treaties, free trade agreements, national investment legislation and contracts. He also advised sovereign governments around the world on boundary disputes.
Prior to joining Dewey & LeBoeuf, Mr. Solis spent five years as counsel to the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) in Washington DC. As secretary to arbitral tribunals, he administered a number of arbitral proceedings conducted in English, Spanish and French and involving countries in Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa and initiated under investment treaties, contractual provisions and national law.
In another prior position, as a legal advisor to the Government of El Salvador, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Solis served on a team that represented El Salvador before the International Court of Justice, seeking revision of a judgment rendered in a land dispute with a neighboring government. Mr. Solis also served as a prosecutor in the Fraud and Assets Control units of the attorney general's office of El Salvador.

Mr. Solis lectures and publishes frequently on matters related to international law and conflict resolution. As a visiting lawyer to the Paris offices of two global law firms, he conducted legal research on international law and arbitration and assisted in the preparation of treaty arbitration between private companies and sovereign governments. He is a member of the ICC, Latin American Group.
He earned his L.L.M., International Legal Studies, from Georgetown University Law Center and his Licenciado, a J.D. equivalent, from Universidad Doctor Jose Matias Delgados, El Salvador.
