Rising star business litigators Scott R. Branam, Matthew M. Villmer lead practice from historic G.G. Galloway House
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Oct. 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Sodoma Law, P.C., a family-focused and family-driven firm with a multi-disciplinary approach, announces the addition of a Business Litigation Practice Group. Located in the historic G.G. Galloway House, the Practice Group is led by Scott R. Branam and Matthew M. Villmer, both of whom are proven, driven Business Litigation attorneys passionate about giving their clients strong and effective legal representation.
"As Family Law practitioners, we understand the interconnectedness of life's events – we know that our clients' legal needs don't stop at their front doors," said Nicole H. Sodoma, founder and attorney, Sodoma Law, P.C. "The addition of the Business Litigation Practice Group allows us to assist our clients more broadly, and strengthens our role within the Charlotte community. Scott and Matt are both extraordinary lawyers who genuinely care about their clients and who fit in well with our firm's dedication to exceptional and compassionate client service."
Scott Branam brings extensive experience in civil litigation to his role at Sodoma Law, with particular experience in legal issues associated with Medicaid-managed care and professional sports. He has litigated both jury and bench trials, and handled cases involving from thousands of dollars to over $8 million in awards. An Ohio Rising Star 2012, Construction Litigation, Mr. Branam is presently a member of the Mecklenburg County Bar Association's Professionalism, Lawyer Life and Culture Committee. He holds a B.A. from Miami of Ohio University, a M.A. in Sports Management from Ohio State University, and a J.D. from the University of Toledo College of Law.
"At Sodoma Law, I advocate on behalf of my individual and business clients to resolve their disputes," said Scott R. Branam. "I understand that for clients, the process of resolving those disputes can be intimidating, scary, and sensitive. As my clients' advocate, I gladly work through all that comes with resolving disputes so that my clients can focus on their lives, family, and businesses. I worry about each dispute, so they do not have to."
Prior to joining Sodoma Law, Matt Villmer was the youngest attorney in Florida history to argue before Florida's 1st District Court of Appeals. Mr. Villmer was also lead counsel in the largest claim filed against BP after the 2010 oil spill. He has been a featured guest speaker before various organizations around the United States, addressing complex litigation tactics, research strategies, environmental litigation, and more. Mr. Villmer is a member of the North Carolina and Mecklenburg County Bar Associations, and a mentor with the Tulane Law School Maritime Journal. He holds a B.A. from Western Kentucky University and a J.D. from Florida Coastal School of Law, magna cum laude.
"I know the importance of smart, frank, and cost-effective counsel—I grew up in a family of business owners, and over the years I've run a few companies myself," said Villmer. "From highly complex litigation to simple collection work, businesses need experienced counsel. At Sodoma Law, I represent business owners in a range of practice areas, including contract disputes, collection matters, landlord tenant law, real estate disputes, new business start-ups, contract drafting, and just about every type of civil litigation you can imagine."
Now home to Sodoma Law's Business Litigation Practice Group, as well as the main office of Doma Vida Capital and additional "residents," the G.G. Galloway House was purchased by Attorney Nicole and Ron Sodoma in November 2013, saving it from the wrecking ball to be restored to its original elegance and character. Originally built in 1915, the G.G. Galloway House is the only surviving structure in what was once an imposing residential district on the western end of East Morehead Street in Dilworth, Charlotte's first streetcar suburb. Today, Dilworth is a popular historic neighborhood which borders Uptown Charlotte, the nation's largest utility center and third largest banking center.
