Interactive Map: Immigration Enforcement Activity

WASHINGTON, May 6, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Center for Immigration Studies has published a map showing the total cumulative number of aliens removed by ICE , after identification through the Secure Communities program, between October 2008 and February 2015. This program was discontinued as part of President Obama's executive actions of November 2014.

Jessica Vaughan, the Center's Director of Policy Studies and author of the analysis, stated, "It is apparent from this data that few parts of the country are unaffected by illegal immigration. The positive results of the Secure Communities program substantiate the need to facilitate and expand opportunities for cooperation between ICE and its local law enforcement partners."

The total number of removals shown is 406,441, which is a subset of all ICE removals. The three counties with the most cumulative removals over the period were Los Angeles County, Calif.; Maricopa County, Ariz.; and Harris County, Texas, which all were among the first places in the country where Secure Communities was activated.

Secure Communities has been replaced by the Priority Enforcement Program, which has set up significant logistical and political hurdles for ICE in taking custody of criminal aliens. In response to the slackening of enforcement by the Obama administration, the House of Representatives is considering a bill to make it easier for local governments to assist in enforcement (known as the Davis Act).
