FORT WORTH, Texas, March 22, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Here in Texas, one person dies in a crash approximately every 2.5 hours—many of them at intersections.
Using data from the Traffic Operation Division of the Texas Department of Transportation, Patterson Law Group examined a vast collection of traffic data from the last five years to create the first interactive traffic study for the Fort Worth area. The firm's goal is to reduce and prevent accidents at intersections notorious for crashes. Over the last six years, Fort Worth has been home to more than 40,000 accidents.
"I hope this report makes the public appreciate just how dangerous driving really is around here. 'It won't happen to me' just doesn't apply anymore," stated attorney Travis Patterson. "With all the distractions inside vehicles these days, it's just a sad reality that you or someone you love will very likely be in a car accident at some point."
According to the most recent statewide data, 807 people were killed in crashes occurring at Texas intersections or related to an intersection in 2015. Earlier this year, a woman was killed and an infant critically injured following a two-vehicle wreck at a Fort Worth intersection—just one of a number of traffic tragedies in the area. In Fort Worth, the intersection at State Highway 199 and West Weatherford Street ranked #1 for the highest number of accidents in 2016—51 total.
Distracted driving was attributed to approximately 15 percent of all Texas accidents in 2015. "Take the steps in advance to prepare yourselves for the inevitable. Be alert when driving. You might be a great driver, but you also need to be on the lookout for bad drivers around you," warned Patterson. "It's also a good idea to maintain adequate underinsured motorist coverage, and know the steps to take if you get into an accident."
Rounding out the city's top five most dangerous Fort Worth intersections include North Riverside and Western Center Blvd (28 accidents). Bryant Irvin Road and State Highway 183 ranked number three with 26 accidents. East 5th Street and Commerce Street came in at number four with 25 accidents. BI0287 and State Highway 183 came in fifth with 23 accidents. To view the entire 'Top 10' list, click here.
"By pointing out these Fort Worth accident collision hot spots, we hope to reduce the number of injuries in our community," stressed Patterson. "We hope this interactive study encourages drivers to keep their eyes and ears open in order to be prepared for the unexpected to happen at any moment."
